Pulmuone Thin Wrap Dumpling to Hit US Shelves through Local Production

◦ Pulmuone to launch 2 new varieties of Thin Wrap Dumpling in H Mart, the largest Asian grocery store in US, to start a full-scale dumpling business in US

SEOUL – January 28th, 2022– Pulmuone announced on 28th that the company rolled out its locally produced two varieties of Thin Wrap Dumpling, a mega-hit item from South Korean dumpling market, on shelves of H Mart, the largest Asian grocery store in America, aiming to accelerate its expansion of frozen dumpling business in the U.S.

 

Pulmuone Foods USA has sold Thin Wrap Kimchi Dumplings, which is stuffed with tofu, kimchi and other plant-based ingredients, in superstore chains and Asian markets. To actively respond to the rising demands for dumplings and consumers’ taste palates in the U.S. market, Pulmuone Foods USA is adding two new locally-produced Thin Wrap Dumpling varieties: Pork & Vegetable and Pork & Textured Soy Flour. With its Thin Wrap Dumpling lineup of three varieties, Pulmuone Foods USA plans to widely introduce and spread a thin wrap craze among the U.S. consumers.

 

Sales of Pulmuone USA’s frozen dumpling products has steadily increased over the last three years, with an annual growth of 9.4% from 2018 to 2021. The company is set to develop the Thin Warp Dumpling varieties as its signature products and bring a thin wrap twist to the U.S. frozen dumpling category.

 

The two new Thin Wrap Dumpling products were shipped in mid-January and are now available in Asian market stores. By hitting the shelves of nationwide stores of H mart, Pulmuone Foods USA began its full scale penetration into the U.S. market. H Mart, established in 1982, is the largest Asian food supermarket chain in the U.S. with 97 stores across the country and well-known for the most frequented Asian grocery store among Korean-Americans and American consumers. “We are expecting Thin Wrap Dumpling, a mega-hit product lineup from South Korean frozen dumpling market, to get favorable feedback from customers here,” said Jeong-kyu Lee, a Purchasing Director of H Mart. “We are planning to continue our partnership with Pulmuone in order to contribute to the growth of Asian foods in the U.S. market.”

 

Thin Wrap Dumpling, first launched in 2019 in South Korea, is Pulmuone’s mega hit product that changed the landscape of the country’s frozen dumpling market. The new dumpling product fascinated local consumers with its extra-thin (0.7 mm) wrap and ample fillings, outpacing the existing players to post total sales of KRW 24 billion (USD 200 million) by the end of 2021. Thin Wrap Dumpling was also the only South Korean dumpling product to be nominated as one of the top breakthrough innovations for East Asia by Nielsen in 2020.

 

“We came to a conclusion that the quality of Thin Wrap Dumpling, which is already proved in the South Korean market, is well enough to compete in the market here,” said Hye-sang Park, a Product Manager at Asian Channel Category of Pulmuone Foods USA. “Through aggressive online and offline marketing activities, we will promote Thin Wrap Dumpling as the flagship product of Pulmuone Foods USA.”
