This prose is an excerpt from the quiet narration in Pulmuone’s first TV commercial. To this day, our principles remain unchanged except that we have become more stringent than the nationally set standards. to produce wholesome foods for your family’s health and happiness. We have also made the entire process transparent and public—from manufacturing to distribution so that everyone can see how our products are produced with which ingredients.

    1. We use ingredients that are free from harmful substances and whose origin and history are traceable.
    The first step to producing wholesome foods that are safe to eat is to select safe ingredients. We use only ingredients whose history, including information on origin, production, stock and release, and distribution, can be traced and managed. Moreover, all ingredients are pre-screened for pesticide residues, heavy metals, pathogenic microorganisms, and other safety hazards.

    2. We do not use radiation-treated ingredients.
    We do not use ingredients that have been irradiated for the purpose of preservation of food quality or enhancement of microbial safety. In addition, we do not use GMO produce, such as soybeans or corn, as our ingredients. However, such standards do not apply to fats, oils, and starch sugars as GMO components (GMO genes and the proteins produced by them) are eliminated during processing process.

    3. We use only ingredients that are free from antibiotics and growth promoters.
    As with humans, administering large doses of antibiotics to domesticated animals can create antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Although it is still unclear how these bacteria may influence humans, we only use livestock products safe from antibiotics and growth promoters in consideration of the concerns voiced by our customers.

    4. We do not use partially hydrogenated oils containing trans fats.
    It has already been scientifically proven that trans fats reduce healthy HDLs((high-density lipoprotein)) in the body, while increasing unhealthy LDLs((low density lipoprotein)) which can cause inflammatory reactions and coronary artery disease. As such, countries such as Denmark and Austria as well as cities like New York in the U.S. have banned trans fats, and in Korea, it is mandatory for food manufacturers to include trans fat content on food labels. To minimize the consumption of trans fat, we do not use partially hydrogenated oils (which are oils produced by adding hydrogen to vegetable oil or animal fat) such as margarine and shortening, both well-known for their high levels of trans fats.

    5. We do not use synthetic preservatives, synthetic food dyes, artificial flavors, or MSG.
    To preserve the natural taste of our ingredients and their unique flavors, we avoid preserving or creating any tastes, flavors, or colors by using synthetic preservatives, synthetic food dyes, artificial flavors, or MSG.

    6. We create products according to Pulmuone nutritional guidelines on calories, sodium, sugars, saturated fat, and other nutritional factors.
    These days, nutritional imbalances are considered the main culprit in chronic disease. In response, we are developing products based on our own nutritional guidelines for easy-to-prepare meals that can be used as substitutes for regular home-cooked dishes. In cases where complying with normal nutritional standards is difficult (e.g., noodle soups that contain too much sodium due to their innate characteristics), we suggest ways to eat or cook the dish that can make up for the undesirable effects to help our customers practice balanced nutrition.

    7. We produce food based on stringent manufacturing hygiene standards to ensure your safety.
    We use our own set of safe manufacturing standards known as the Pulmuone Food Safety Management System (PFSMS). Our standards are similar to those of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and incorporate various measures such as QMS (Quality Management System), standardized manufacturing processes, and hygiene management standards.

    8. Our packaging management standards are designed for your health and the environment.
    All Pulmuone food packaging is designed based on the “4R” principle. Our packages are optimally designed in consideration of the relevant manufacturing processes to lower the use of resources (Reduce). We use the minimum amount of packaging needed to ensure our products are safe for consumption during their shelf life (Remove), and our packages can be reused and recycled (Reuse and Recycle). Moreover, in our packaging, we use PE, PP, PET and other materials that do not produce environmental hormones or other hazardous substances.

    9. We observe strict Pulmuone temperature management standards from manufacturing to distribution.
    As we strive for the minimum amount of processing needed to deliver the natural and unique tastes of the ingredients used, to ensure the optimal quality of our products, we also observe strict temperature management standards for room temperature, refrigeration, and freezing set for each product in the process of manufacturing, storage, and logistics.

    10. We disclose all ingredients and their uses in our products.
    Every food product contains information about its ingredients on its packaging. However, according to relevant laws, for a compound material mixed with two or more materials or additives, if it comprises more than 5% of the food product, the top five components, with the exception of purified water, must be listed, whereas if it amounts to less than 5%, only the name of the compound must be listed. Therefore, it is difficult to know exactly what and how many ingredients are used in a product even if it meets the legal standards for labeling. By employing the New Complete Labeling System, Pulmuone has made public all ingredients in order of quantity, and in case of additives, their elements and usage, guaranteeing customers the right to make informed decisions.

Truly wholesome foods do not have anything to hide. Through our New Complete Labeling System, we have made public all ingredients and additives. Pulmuone has an obligation to provide correct information about our food products, just as our customers have the right to choose products based on accurate information. Pulmuone’s New Complete Labeling System, more stringent than what the laws require, allows you to thoroughly examine the ingredients and additives used in our products and help you make informed decisions.
Production History Information System
Entering the bar code number or product name of a Pulmuone product (for example, tofu/vegetables, seasoned laver/sea mustard) in our system will provide you with information about how they have been produced and delivered—from the place of origin to the store. In 2006, for the first time in Korea, Pulmuone introduced the Production History Information System for its organic tofu and bean sprouts. In 2007, the seafood history system was added to include laver products, and in 2008, the whole system was expanded once again to include tofu and bean sprouts made from locally produced beans. Operating the Production History Information System is not easy. It requires accurately identifying, storing and directly managing all relevant information, such as raw materials and manufacturing methods, from the manufacturing to sales stage. This, in turn, demands technical expertise and the human and material support from all sectors. To guarantee safe, wholesome foods, Pulmuone will continue to expand the scope of the production history system.
