SEOUL – May 20th, 2022– Pulmuone is to sell authentic Korean-made kimchi with fish sauce in stores of Walmart with an aim to accelerate its expansion of kimchi business in the U.S.

Pulmuone announced on the 20th that the food company, starting on this month, is selling traditional kimchi with fish sauce in 400 stores of Walmart, the largest retailer in the U.S., by shipping the Korean-made kimchi to the American states. It is the first time that Pulmuone has sold traditional Korean-made kimchi solely under its own brand name ‘Pulmuone’ in large U.S. retail stores.

Since 2019, Pulmuone has been selling vegan kimchi produced in Korea at the U.S. mainstream retail stores including Walmart, Kroger, and Publix. By adding its Korean-made kimchi with fish sauce to the shelves of 400 stores of Walmart, Pulmuone is solidifying its position as the most famous kimchi brand in the U.S. market.

Pulmuone continues its one-of-a-kind strategy of producing kimchi in Korea and delivering it to the U.S. that differentiates it from those local production-oriented companies in the U.S. kimchi market. Pulmuone choses to directly export kimchi products from its plant in Iksan, Korea to mainland U.S. using its Korean-Clay-Jar-Inspired Cooling Technology, as Kimchi relies on ingredients and environment for its original taste and quality. Although adhering to the unique strategy comes with a number of difficulties including extra product and logistics costs, Pulmuone, which defines the kimchi business as an international promotion of Korean food culture, is persisting with its own strategy with an aim to introduce Korean authentic kimchi to the consumers of the United States.

The kimchi with fish sauce sold by Pulmuone at Walmart from this month is a central-style Korean authentic kimchi with fresh taste to suit local consumers' palates. Pulmuone net a deal with the top U.S. retailer by complying with the pre-qualification requirements with its thorough product temperature control, proper product localization, and the brand’s reputation as a stable original kimchi supplier proven in the U.S. mainstream market.

"The launch of Pulmuone kimchi with fish sauce in Walmart stores is a clear indication that our strategy of promoting authentic Korean-made kimchi is widely recognized by the consumers around the globe,” said KS Cho, CEO of Pulmuone Foods USA. “Pulmuone will continue its efforts to introduce original Korean-made kimchi to the local consumers and expand distribution channels to take lead in the U.S. kimchi market.”

As the Korean wave is spreading and kimchi is in the limelight as Korea’s representative food in the U.S., Pulmuone is actively engaging marketing campaigns to provide the U.S. consumers with access to the original Korean kimchi. On April 29, Pulmuone participated in the Korean Heritage Night, a cultural exchange event held at the home stadium of Montgomery Biscuits, a Minor League Baseball team and the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays based in Montgomery, Alabama, to host a Pulmuone kimchi tasting and giveaway event. Pulmuone sponsored the event for the second time since July last year with an aim to introduce Korean food culture and plans to be a sponsor for the next event scheduled in July this year.
